This month’s music, for obvious reasons, is resplendent with Christmas carols. Of special note is the version of Away In A Manger which we will be doing, which is the alternate or traditional English version and is based on the Kirkpatrick tune. If you’re not familiar with this version please let me know and I’ll get you a copy. Also of note is the carol In Dulci Jubilo, a traditional Christmas carol composed in the 1200’s, and partially in Latin (we will be doing the Robert Lucas de Pearsall version, set to the music of “Good Christian Men Rejoice”).
As if taking on all of these carols wasn’t enough, we’re also adding the “Gloria Patri” (Glory be to the father, and to the son, and to the Holy Ghost… etc) doxology on certain weeks. This is a very short hymn – if musicians are finding this to be too much on top of carols we can simply lead it a cappella.
Please make a good effort to learn this music before coming to practice, so that we can be confident in leading worship. Also, note that if you are missing music or whatnot, links to the music are included on the right hand side of the blog. Carol links will be added as I get the chance to put them up, but I will have the appropriate links at least a week in advance. Thanks!
